About The Shadow Sovereign

Princess Zhao Yang, Li Shu, is born to a low-ranking concubine and grows up in the Cold Palace, where she endures years of neglect because of her mother's humble status. Through her intelligence and political acumen, she earns a place in the Crown Prince's faction. Yet after leaving the Cold Palace, she becomes nothing more than a pawn in his political game. At the banquet honoring the newly crowned scholars, Li Shu is publicly impeached by Shen Xiao, the top scholar from a humble background. With the emperor quietly orchestrating events behind the scenes, Shen Xiao leads the rising commoner officials in challenging the aristocratic families and their monopoly on power. As Li Shu and Shen Xiao confront each other, they become locked in a fierce political rivalry. Determined to break free from her loveless marriage and the Crown Prince's control, Li Shu uses her public clashes with Shen Xiao as a cover while secretly cultivating the influence of talented commoners. Together, they gradually weaken the corrupt Crown Prince's faction and reshape the empire's balance of power.
